Not really about the different names but I found "Don't Fear the Reaper" on a scythe.

Ironic, I suppose.

Um.... yay?

GuildWiki have inserts and bits of trivia where some of the names may have derived from. It would be good to check that out for yourself sometime.

And who can forget the "More cow bell" quest in Cantha, where you went out into an area with lots of blue oysters. Methinks a developer is a Blue Oyster Cult fan. Kind of surprising to find people my age involved with develping these games.

Yeah the LL Cool J one was one of the first I recognized, from the song "Mama Said Kock You Out"... brings back a lot of memories.

"To the Pain!" is a close one for a favorite, as The Princess Bride is one of those movies I can watch repeatedly.
Westley: "To the pain," means the first thing you lose will be your feet below the ankles, then your hands at the wrists, next your nose

"I have the power!" is another one I like. He-Man was the end all and be all of cartoons at one point in my life.

"I can see clearly now" ...the rain is gone...oldies ftw. (I prefer the BOb Marley version). Great reference considering the mod.

But the best one, by far, IMO, if "Master of My Domain." I mean, you can't go wrong with that Seinfeld reference. Apparently there's a big Seinfeld fan in A-net somewhere...SERENITY NOW!!!!!!

"Sleep Now in the Fire" is a Rage Against the Machine Song.

Thats 90's music, so there has to be younger people in Anet than 40+ also.

"Sleep Now in the Fire" - is the name of a Rage Against the Machine song
"Serenity Now" - what Castanza's dad yells to calm himself down in one episode of Sienfeld
"Like a Rolling Stone" - I beleive this is a Bob Dylan song
"I can see Clearly Now" - cant remembe rthe song title (i can see clearly now the rain has gone, i can see all obstacles in my way blah blah)

They took a lot of new skills from other kinds of media too
"Can't Touch This!" - MC Hammer
"It's Just a Flesh Wound" - from the Black Knight from Monty Python and the Holy Grail
"The Power is yours!" - courtesy of Captain Planet (:P)

Anyway im sure there are more those are the ones i picked up on
PEACE

You know there's already a thread concerning Nightfall inside jokes...I'm pretty sure inscriptions would qualify there too. Just pointing this out.

Wait, older people aren't allowed to like 90's music now?

I have to admit, the first time I saw "Can't touch This" and "Not the face" I burst out laughing. I love them, even if i won't really be using them but I think its a really good touch and run around with them just for fun.

I think they are kinda dumb... I mean, one second you're in a world with gods and magic and demons, then you get pop-culture references thrown at you... they just stand out too much and kinda take away from the experience.

I'd prefer if they were more along the lines of fantasy and not attempts to be funny.

You should have voiced that opinion two years ago

It's a Guild Wars tradition.
We've had these pop-culture jokes from the very beginning of the game.
It's nothing new.
